Chiropractic is an art and a science dedicated to the removal of subluxations. What is a subluxation? A subluxation is misalignment of a spinal vertebra or other structure in the body causing nerve interference that results in discomfort or dysfunction. There are a number of chiropractic techniques used by chiropractors to correct subluxations.. For the most part chiropractors use their hands to facilitate these corrections or "adjustments." Some chiropractors use a small instrument called an activator. Other chiropractors use wedges properly placed under the pelvis to correct pelvic subluxations.
The techniques used in my office are all non-force. Very gentle hands on pressure is used to make a correction. This is done without performing what is called an osseous adjustment or the "cracking" that is familiar to most people when they think of chiropractic. Although osseous adjustments can be gentle many people prefer non-force techniques.
